I was just wondering why whenever somebody mentions the name of a pet store they say ******. As an example someone would say "I bought a new gecko at the local *******."
The forum software automatically censors the names of the two big chain stores. The forum's TOS states that no negative discussion of any store, breeder, company, etc is allowed, and since people generally don't have nice things to say about the two chains they are auto-censored to save the mod team the work of having to edit all the posts.
Naming and shaming a specific store can effect the stores sales, the store can then sue the website, and we don't want that, naming a store say in a general area, so a certain petshop in candy lane tennasee, (im English im just making that up) is ok, but naming a specific store can have dire concequences, even though generally many people know who we are talking about when we advise against buying from a chain store, your not directly implying it.
For a while there was a new chain store complaint thread popping up almost everyday. The moderators and administrators were spending so much time editing out the store names (to avoid lawsuits) that we decided it was best to block the names and make a rule about it. Everyone is welcome to use "chain store" instead of having asterisks in their post.
