Transparent Avatar?

I just erased the background from a photo, saved it as a png. and uploaded it to photobucket to copy the URL to my geckoforums avatar. It said invalid file so I am wondering how to do it right?

If you or anybody wants to know how I did it here it is.

I went to fotoflexer.com

Upload an image and then go to the "Geek" tab and select smart scissors. Cut out the space and save it as a png. Don't upload it to a photo hoster website, just add it to GF straight from your files.
