How do I put an image in front of my post...ie in the classifieds or show off leos section how some people have pictures in front of their thread that you can see prior to clicking on the thread?

That feature is only turned on in the Classifieds and the Show of Your Leos sections. You simply upload an attachment, or attachments in either of those forums and the first attachment you upload will be displayed as a thumbnail next to the thread title.
