I’m sorry that your vet wasent really the best. I got a similar vet that told that my Russian tortoise should be kept in a 40 gallon which is tiny for my 4-5 year old. I’m not sure about the diy plan but just wait, a professional will respond soon.

I'm not an expert but the more higher the wattage the more hotter the lamp. I have a tortoise in the basement and I need a high wattage bulb during the winter because it gets very cold. I never owned any arcadia items btw. :)
