while considered a colubrid, false water cobras are venomous rear fanged snakes. the toxicity of there venom is debated from being very mild, no side effects to very little, localized swealing and what not but there have been reports of it being equal to that of a western diamondback rattlesnake but no actual information at this point has been found to back that up. russ did get bit on the finger and one rear fang punctured his finger and he had no effects what so ever. here are some photos.
