I'm planning on breeding and I want things in order before the fact. :main_yes:
What is the best incubator on the market? What should I be looking for in an incubator?

IMO the best Incubator is the Nature's Spirit incubator that will cost you quite a bit. I would recommend a Hovabator with any proportional thermostat. AKA Helix or Herpstat.

What's the difference between the 'Thermal Air Flow' and 'Turbo Fan' models of the Hovabator? I'm considering this one.

I feel it is important whatever one you get, to read all the "Choosing the Proper Location for Your Incubator, normally listed on the instructions within the box. It will tell you what temperatures your incubator can operate in......Normally many additional motors for extras create additional heat. You just want to make sure it will cover your gecko temp. hatching range. Don't depend on sale people to know hatching needs. Open the box and read about hatching. Decide where it will be positioned and monitor temps. Take care... HJ

I heard the turbo fan model drys out the eggs and sometimes, the temperatures gets too high. The turbo fan model blows heat, like a fan blowing heat at you with the air.

in my opinion there is no point of buying an incubator just use the method of the 4,6 qrts tub with 0.8 grams of water to 1 gram of vermiculite and leave it

I have 1 hovabater and 1 little giant and they both work really well. The little giant was only $34.00 at a local farm store. I was told not to use the turbo fan incubators.

So, all I need is a tub some vermi stuff and a warm place yes? that sounds easy enough, this might sound silly but should I put a lid on the tub? and should I put the eggs in egg boxes to separate them or not It sounds like a lot cheaper option

i think the best thing i can do is wait and see how it goes with my breeding before i invest in an incubator as you all know how the expences escalalate when you are setting up. i will try incubating in the tank to start with

We have a Nature's Spirit and a Little Giant (same one Ruby mentioned). Both worked just fine although the Little Giant was set at 88F, we had 3 probe thermometers in it that all read 2 degrees different from each other and half of the babies came out as females. The Nature's Spirit stayed within half a degree of the desired temperature. They both work, but you do get what you pay for.

First season of breeding for me. I have been using a Hova Bator I think it is a 1602. I think. I have had 100 percent success with this unit. I have hatched 5 for 5 and I have 3 eggs still in the incubator that look good. I didnt pay much for it. I think 35 or 40 new. I will probably need another for next year so I can hatch males along with females. I will probably just get another of the same.

They are the easiest thing to build

Styro cooler, two house bricks. and either a submersible fistank heater, or I use a 7 watt night light bulb on a dimmer. Give it 24 hours to stabilize, I have never lost a single egg, I incubate in vermiculite. GL

I have had good results with a simple hova. I have used them with the wafer thermo, but now have adapted the use of a herpstat proportional thermo. Still using the hovabators! :D

The temps still "bounce" a bit, but I am sure that by using small egg containers(only big enough for four eggs each) that are made of rather thick plastic, the temps inside the containers are more stable. I`ve consistently hatched almost every egg that went in there.*Knock on wood*

As for the best, I also hear the natures spirit ones, are at the top of the list.

How 'bout the Juragon reptile incubator? Anyone have experiences with it? It looks pretty skookum with humidity control and everything, designed specifically for lizards.
